Repeat Prescriptions

Some tips when requesting repeat medication:

• Prescription requests can take up to 5 WORKING DAYS to be processed at the practice and sent to your pharmacy.
• It is easier for the practice and pharmacies if you are able to request all medication you might need that month together, in one request. We can issue medication a few days early if required, to sync up all your repeats. 
• We can prescribe up to 2 months (56 days) of some lower risk medications in one issue (does not include antidepressants, painkillers, controlled drugs)
• Mondays are an extremely busy day for our team processing prescription requests as we have the weekend queries to manage so please bear with us.

How to request medication:

• You cannot phone us to request repeat prescriptions
• Drop in your paper slip to our surgery sites
• Request online - using NHSapp or SystmOnline account

Why does it take so long to issue a prescription?

• Patients are on more and more medications, as healthcare is getting more complex. We are lucky to have access to many more medications than ever before - some to prevent disease and some to treat known illnesses. More repeat medications, means more time to process them.
• It is important that prescriptions are safely issued - sometimes a GP or pharmacist needs to review a request and this can take longer.
• We are asked to prescribe more medications by the hospital than we used to. Clinic letters can take a few weeks to arrive with us, it takes time to review and process these letters and ensure any prescription suggestions are safe.
• We are recruiting so extra Prescription Administration team members to help but it takes some time to train staff.
